Insurance for mobile phone

I'm just about to purchase an IPhone
Due to its value i wish to have some insurance for this item.
I have seen seperate mobile phone insurance for about £5 a month i think it was.
But can this phone be insured under my contents insurance im guessing the cover would be under the items outside of the home and may need to be specified
I was under the impression that contents insurance used to exclude mobile phones hence the need for insurance policies sold by phone companies and shops.
or am i incorrect?
Thanks

You need to check your specific contents policy to see if it is excluded.
Sorry, can't give a general answer.
If it is covered then it would be under the "personal possessions" section which covers
things that are frequently take from the home like jewellry, watches, sports equipment etc.
What you have to also consider however is that if you make a claim, it can increase the premium for several years and sometimes there is an excess.
It's often therefore not worth claiming for a single small item (depending on the cost).0 -
May be worth going for the specific mobile insurance then

I phoned my insurance company and my iphone is covered only for inside the home. Personal belongings outside which would be an extra £5. I never take my phone outside so any breakage would be at home. If you know what I mean0

Accidental damage maybe, but loss or theft is more of an issue if you are intending to commit fraud as the first isnt covered inside the home and the second you would need to also fake a break in to the house and report it to the police. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
