Netbook query

This is probably a stupid question but hope someone can enlighten me. I have read that netbooks dont usually have a disk drive so how would you set it up to receive the internet at home. We have orange broadband and used a set up disc to connect our PC and laptops for use with the livebox. I also thought that the mobile internet dongles also came with a set up disc.

Also, could anyone recommend a lightweight laptop (not too expensive). Looking for something my daughter can carry round between home, her boyfriends' and college.

Many thanks.

  • Do you have a broadband connection?

If it is wireless then the netbook will detect your router and all you do is key in your password. Alternatively if it is a wired connection then simply connect up the cable.

As for recommending a laptop, I personally think the Acers are very good. They are a good price at Tesco.

    Hope this helps.

  • Thank you. So I presume that the mobile dongles dont need a set up disc either then?
  • Mobile broadband dongles don't have set up discs either, they come with all that set-up stuff pre-loaded and you can download extra stuff online if there's a conflict with your OS or something like that.

Friend of mine got a "free" Compaq CQ61 on a mobile bb deal with three the other day and that's really nice, I don't know much about computers but he says its really good anyway :) found a review here http://!!!!!!/L0vj

Also, if you want to keep the netbook you can buy an external DVD drive for not too much (£30ish). Hope this helps!

If you have a netbook and you need to get drivers etc over to it you can download them via the internet, copy them onto a memory stick and install them from that or you can buy usb dvd drives that you just plug in when you need it.

asus, acer and samsung all make great netbooks
