Hi there,
I've been cleaning out all the stuff I no longer want and wish to do a car boot sale. I live in Basildon in Essex and wondered if anyone had a few tips on a good car boot sale to go to and any tip with regards pricing etc.

Any tips with regards to actually doing the boot sale would be most welcome...

whats a good time to get there....

I've got a little transit connect van....

Thank you for your help

the one on the roundabout under the A127 is really good on a sunday morning.. very busy .. downside is u have to get there early

on the A130 at rettendon (near the waterworks) is one that is for laterisers and theres also lazybones on the old A130....the waterworks one is cheaper to get a pitch at tho as its only £5 for cars/£8 for vans and goes on til 4pm

i am going to do one myself soon and will prob pick the waterworks one so i dont have to get up early lol

the one bit of advice i am have is to price things... when i go myself i cant always be bothered to ask if its not something i really want..... my plan is to put all the books in a box with 25p each or 5 for a £1 and do similar with little uns toys etc ... everything else i will jus price up with labels.. i also intend making up a sign with everything half price to put up near the end of the sale... i really dont want to bring this stuff home so look forward to hearing other peoples tips

i find the dunton one has too many traders now and also because its getting so well known lots of people are asking silly money for things.... it may be good for selling but not if u are buying

  • Ive done the one at Dunton twice this year and a few times last year. There are alot of '' traders'' there but we have made a good profit ( £80+ and we only have a small car so cant take alot ) each time. Just been selling clothes ( 50p ) bric a brac ( 50p to a £2 ) that we had sorted out. If there are 2 of you its much easier.

You need to get there around 5.30am at the latest as its massive and it fills up very quickly. It takes about 2 hours to get from one end to the other if you are buying. We have found that by 12.30 alot of people are packed up to go home. Its £7 for a car to get in.

I also found that if you say a price for something most people will want it for half that so i either start higher or just say no, or meet them in the middle. If i only had a pound for everyone who pleads that they only have 50p in their pocket that have then pulled out a wad of notes when ive been firm about the price!!!.

    Hope this helps.

You tend to get a lot of diddycoys at Dunton for some reason, beware.

Hi - I think they are two seperate ones.
Its been a few years since i did the essex sales but recall, the 127 one, the dunton one (opposite Fords), there is also the barleylands one at billericay way, and one over in Chelmsford.

Probably others but those were the big 4 a few years back.

Barleylands always seemed a nicer place to be to buy and sell than the others. Bit more spaced out.

Sundays in Harlow there is one on the Pinnacles estate, not sure of the prices think it's a tenner to sell but I've never been as a seller, runs 12-4.

Saturday there is usually a small one at North Weald airfield and summer times there is one at Canes farm usually, but they come and go, the Sunday one is the main one.
