Getting most money from car scrapping

My car is uneconomic to repair and the garage I have taken it to are keen to take it to use as one of their courtesy cars.

The garage are offering to take it the car off me, but won't give me any more. Or they say I can scrap it and get what I can but will have to pay them £115 for the time they've taken to look at it, and try and repair it.

Essentially, it leaves me with little choice but I just wondered if anyone had an opinion on this, or knows of a way to scrap/get rid of a car for a bit of money. The car is going to cost £300 minimum to get going again, but given its age, history and milegae I don't feel its worth it.

Bear in mind the car is undriveable so I would need a tow truck to take it from the garage, or someone who has one!

Thanks.

Which garage is that? Please name and shame because I want to make sure I never go to a garage that uses £300 courtesy vehicles.

  • The car needs a new engine which will cost £300, when new parts and labour come in I'm told it will be in the region of £600 - the car is a 2000 Fiat Punto and has done 102,000 miles. To be fair on the garage, they can fix it for the price of the engine only (they won't charge themselves for labour) and then it will run fine. I would rather invest £600 in a newer car with a better future. I was just hoping to make a bit of money out of it.
