problems getting my bond back

ok so i moved out august 22nd officially and there was a problem with the elec meter. so i got it replaced which was completed on 06/11/09 the letting agents advised they were holding onto the bond until completed in case there was a cost. something i didnt agree with as being in my trade i know the landlord doesnt own the meter plus there would be no charge for its replacement which there wasnt. they advised they would get me the bond back after this which they havent i still havent recieved this and im starting to get impatient now. anything i can do

    Some facts.

    Where is the property?
    How much was the rent and deposit?
    When did the tenancy start and the dates of any renewals?
  • put in writing the expectation of its return in 7 days. to both LA and LL.

    speak to the scheme which protected your deposit. ask if this was allowed.

    deposit was £500 and rent £495

    may 2007 and renewed every 6 months

    Had you damaged the electricity meter?

    So the bond should have been protected.

    Step 1. Check to see if deposit is protected in one of the 3 schemes. (Search on here or on direct.gov.uk for contact details).

    Step 2. If not, issue Letter Before Action to the LL demanding return of deposit plus 3 times the deposit within 7 days.

    Step 2a. If protected just register your objection to the deduction with the protection scheme.

    no not at all the elec meter just stopped working

    when you say issue a letter before action for the bond plus 3 what do you mean by plus 3

    and yes i believe it is protected

    If the deposit is protected (a very important fact that you forgot to mention - disregard my previous post) then why have you not simply submitted a dispute of the LL's costs to the resolution service and let them decide on whether the LL or yourself is correct?

    If it is protected then the LL can not give it back - you need to be proactive and reclaim it.
