I have been lucky enough to have been given this (on long term loan from a friend) but when I tried to install it, it came up with a message that it was not compatible with my PC. This game was released in 1999 for W95 or higher but I have Windows XP SP2.

If I ignore the warning will it damage my system and even more to the point will it work?

It's probably just that it was released before XP so doesn't understand the Windows version number. Try installing anyway: worst that's likely to happen is that it crashes, though I guess there could be code in there saying 'if this is not an OS I recognise format the disk and install Win95' .

There's a thread here saying it runs on XP in compatibility mode, but you might need a patch:

Pretty much every old game I've installed on XP runs, though 'Tomb Raider' and 'Strike Commander' needed some downloads to make them work ('Strike Commander' in particular only runs emulated because XP doesn't support the old memory manager calls it makes).
