Mbna Credit Card PPI Help

Hi all,

Am trying to sort this on behalf of my sister.

Wrote to mbna on regarding some missold ppi on her mbna credit card, an have yesterday received a letter back from them saying the following:

I can confirm that the insurance was applied on 27 april 2006 following a telephone conversation and you gave verbal authorisation to add the policy to your account, blah blah.....The PPC is a fully optional product with 30day cancellation periods etc..i do not feel that a refund is appropriate

She has called them a few times in the past to cancel it but was always 'advised' that its best to keep it on there and she remembers them being very pushy(being a bit naive she didn't think any different).

Anyone had much success with mbna credit cards..

Nassie had the same reply she took it to the FOS and won. Go to the FOS now and wait and see what happens
    Good luck
  • Thanks

It does say that its not a final response so do you think it would be worth a follow up letter etc..

You could possibly write back. Nassie rang them and they said that they were not going to change their decision and she asked for their final response in writing.

When she received this she went to the FOS and won

    Hi there

Wonder if they could also supply you with a copy of the phone calls as well?
Sometimes they will provide them if you request for them, if you write to them request for the recordings as well if you want to, good luck.;)

  • Folks - remember that MBNA were very recently involved in a new court case:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1981625

Basically MBNA gave a credit card to Ms Thorius (who obtained it through Sunderland FC) PPI was included (MBNA arranged this through an Insurance Broker).. Among other things, the Deputy District Judge found that because MBNA failed to disclose to Ms Thouris that they [MBNA] had received a commission from the insurance brokers the PPI was unenforceable because: "an unfair relationship had arisen within Section 140A of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 in the light of the standard advice to the Defendant to the customer to take out PPI when combined with the receipt by the Claimant of undisclosed commission. The appropriate order pursuant to Section 140B of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 " and ordered the return of the PPI Premiums (plus interest).
