Insurance for 17 year old learner

Can anyone advise of any insurers who will insure 17 year old female for first car - learner - at a reasonable price!

Unfortunately our own insurers will not add her to our policies because of the vehicle groups.

I know that Collingwood will insure learners but policy ceases on passing of test.

Thanks.

I used Quinn when my DD was learning (approx £450), the insurance continued after she had passed her test but we did have to pay an additional premium of approx £300. She is now insured with Admiral £580, this was the cheapest I could find . By the way the insurance was in her name on her own car - a 1.2 corsa.
  • Try the price comparison sites, but who ever you go with, phone them up and ask them what the increase in premium will be once your daughter passes her test. It may be that the 2nd or 3rd best quote will actually work out cheaper in the long run.

The reason the price goes up once your daughter has passed her test is for the obvious risk that she is going to prang the car the first time she's in it without you at her side!!
In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move.

Not just the first time but the months after that when she has confidence but not experience and no parent/ instructer next to her making her behave

Thank you for your suggestions - I have sent an email off to the provisional marmalade as they provide cover for the offshore islands but quote a "full uk driving licence" and mine is a local one!

Have now had a very good quote from our existing insurers for her own policy so a few options to consider! Thanks again all:p

Just an update - provisional marmalade didn't even bother to respond so don't think I would recommend them to anyone!

We have managed to get cover in her own name F/C group 1 car for £650 p.a. so have taken it!

Hi my wife used https://www.cheapcarinsuranceforwomen.org.uk . She got a really competative quote. May be worth a try.

You have probably sorted now but we went with Quinn Direct for my son as a learner as they came out the cheapest and once he passed his test, you pay an extra premium but are still earning your no claims.

Which is another good reason to avoid Quinn if you are a learner.

Out of interest how much did they increase the premium?
