Gatwick, Stanstead or Heathrow all have reasonably ok public transport links into London - but be aware there are cheap and expensive ways in from all airports, ie avoid the 'express' rail links and use local trains etc. I'd probably chose Gatwick myself but once you've booked your flight in, ask again for more specific info. Easybus? also do cheap transfers by road I believe into London.

Have you checked out the Easy Hotel, probably one of the cheapest? A friend stayed there cheaply. Or else Premier Inns I guess or Travelodge if there are any cheap room deals going.

Ryanair often do £2 fares from Glasgow to Stansted in their regular "sales". For example Tues £12 Jan to Fri 15 Jan is £8 return at the moment as their are no fees (you must pay by visa electron or use entropay virtual credit card to avoid excessive card fees, plus take hand lugguage only) . May is a bit far in advance to get the "sale" prices, also usually the school holidays are not included in the sale. From Stansted to London the cheapest option is often Easybus if booked in advance.

For hotels you could try the Travelodge, click on saver rooms, premier inn, click on Henry's picture to get sale rooms, the holiday inn 2 nights for 1 link

The London eye ride takes about 30 mins approx.

I have often got good deals for theatre tickets in May (DD's birthday is then), before the half term. I usually get them nearer the time in a special deal from Ticketmaster, Lastminute etc. I remember reading a post on MSE from a poster who worked in the theatres saying that early May is a quiet time for midweek theatre seats and I have found that to be the case.

Look out for cheap tickets on places like buyagift in january they will have a sale and also discount codes / quico. You will be able to get tickets and a meal for resonably cheap.

Have a look at http://www.daysoutguide.co.uk/attraction-types/2for1london.aspx you can get lots of london attractions 2 for 1 when you use the rail system.

Also before you purchase your flights just have a look at the train prices as you can sometimes get special offers for travelling to London by train from glasgow/edinburgh even if it works out the same price think of the carbon footprint. Dont forget to factor in your transfer costs when comparing the price as you wont have any getting the train.
Travelling by train is so much more relaxing I think.
  • 2 for 1 train ticket deal on Les Mis :

The offer: Get two top price tickets for £63, Tuesday, Wednesday evenings, Wednesday matinees
Tickets at just £40 (+ £1.75 booking fee per ticket), Monday, Thursday, Friday evenings
This and other London Theatre special offers are made in association with www.daysoutguide.co.uk. The offer is only valid when you travel by train. We cannot guarantee that any theatre ticket will be honoured if the offer has been sourced indirectly via any third party website.
EXCLUSIONS TO THIS OFFER MAY APPLY - PARTICULARLY DURING SCHOOL HOLIDAYS - PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK BEFORE BOOKING.

Validity: UNTIL 31 MARCH 2010. Offer subject to change and availability.

The offer does end in March but they've extended it before so may be worth keeping an eye on. You will need a valid train (not Tube) ticket for the day of your journey, but can buy a cheap one from the London terminals to the next stop (if you are staying in central London) and use that to get the offer.

  • First choice were doing £99 deals to London by rail including two nights b/b at the Royal National Hotel in Russell Square. Try your local travel agents to see if it covers your travel period?

The hotel is in an excellent location for the West End. It is a big but basic 3* hotel and covers all you need to enjoy London.

For tickets to shows try www.discounttheatre.com to see what is about. My advice would be to wait until nearer the time for a theatre show as you will almost certainly get a discounted or upgraded seat. Shows are not full like they use to be.

For london Eye(30 mins as already stated) look at booking multiple attractions such as madame Tussauds to get the better deals.
  • £22.99 is about average now each way Gla -Lon. You could use Ryanair but i'm sure your aware they fly from well outside Glasgow no matter what they claim!
