Hi, Has anyone whose ISP is Plusnet been having problems over the last couple of weeks. Over the last 2 days my connections speeds have been between 1 > 11 Mbps (the system seems to think that is good) and it is driving me mad !!! Any thoughts/help very much appreciated

It sounds like you have been Max'ed. Did they not tell you? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Hi espresso, sorry but I am reasonably computerate literate but not techie literate...if you know what I mean. I have a package with them which is supposed to give me unlimited usage. I got notification from them over the last couple of months saying they were upgrading speeds and then just over the last month, I seem to have been experiencing a lot of trouble. At one stage I couldnt connect at all. Of course I reported this to them, to which I was told that it would take from 48 - 72 hours to deal with....have to say, I couldnt believe that sort of response time, maybe I am being niave. Anyway, I bought a new & faster router & got my young nephew (who is a bit techie minded) to set it up for me & hey presto for about a week everything was fine. Plusnet emailed me to say that since I was now connecting they assumed the problem was resolved...as far as I know they didnt do anything. Now the last 2 days, you would think I was trying to connect by the slowest dial-up on the planet !!!
When you say Max'ed do you mean I have exceed my usage limitation ? I dont really do any serious usage like a lot of downloading....used mainly for office type applications, email, surfing etc. They did not tell me anything about this.
Sorry for the parable but I find Plusnet Customer Service less than user friendly. I wondered would it be anything to do with them upgrading their
systems ?
Meantime, thanks for the suggestion.0 -
Sorry I'm not a Plusnet customer but I know from various forums etc. they they have had quite a few problems recently. I believe that they have now suspended the automatic upgrades to ADSL Max for their customers i.e. the up to 8MB service due to all the problems that it has caused them. Suggest that you have a browse over here, where you may find others with similar problems.

Problems with ADSL at higher speeds are common. Each ISP has to compete with other ISP's and offer the same kind of service (8Mbps/16Mbps)
Unfortunately the ISP's seem to forget to tell you the service is UPTO 8mb or whatever your on. ADSL lines are old, two copper wires and if your not located very close to the exchange your going to maybe see inconsistant speeds.
If you just browse and dont download much going for a 1Mbps or 2Mbps package would be much better.0 -
Thanks for that espresso, will go looking later, have to go do some work at the moment
T4i....what I signed up for was 1, they upgraded me automatically to 2 and are saying they are now in process of upgrading to 8 depending on capacity of exchange. I live very close to our exchange. As far as I know it doesnt support 8 but over the last 2 weeks I have been getting fluctuations between 1.0Mbpa and 125.0Mbps and I havent a clue what is going on but what I do know is that I cannot do anything without a whole load of bother and waiting !! Before this all started up in the last few months, I had been with PlusNet for couple of years with no problems at all. I probably sound like I am having a rant but so please accept my apologies, it is just that I find it so frustrating. From what you said it sounds like....we think it is wonderful when we get our connection speeds upgraded but in fact it is not and really it is a lot less efficient and user friendly. Does that mean if you move to another ISP you are going to experience the same thing ?0 -
Currently, I am supposed to be on 8mbps-1.
I know that they can only offer upto 6mbps-1 and my max currently has been
5.5mbps-1
I am currently getting 2.9mbps-1.
My ISP has told me that by November the max should be available.
Just let them get on with improvements.
If it bothers you that much when your contract is a month away from finishing, you can either close the service and find another i.s.p. or negociate a new contract.
I did with mine.0
