Broadband FAXing??

I've just switched to BB.
I use my PC to send just a few faxes, though they are important to me. I'm disabled and housebound and find it the best, or only, way to deal with prescription requests and, occasionally, the benefits or local council people.
When I went to BB I unplugged the dial up line, in order to use the BT point for the new modem. Is the only way to send faxes from the PC to take the line out of the wall and reattach the dial up line each time? I CAN do that if necessary, generally I only send a FAX once a month or so, but it will be awkward as the point is not that accessible and I am not that mobile.
I know about services like Efax, but can't find one that lets you SEND faxes for free in UK, it wouldn't be worth paying.

you have 2 options to send faxes via your pc
Option 1 buy a splitter so you can plug your modem back in and use your original fax service
or
Option 2 take a look at http://www2.efax.com/en/efax/twa/page/homePage?rqcp=1 this can be used via BBI think they give you a free trial0 -
You could buy a phone socket doubler for a couple of quid and re-connect your modem cable at the phone socket. If this socket is inaccessible, you could always unplug the lead at the other end where it plugs into your PC. It is best to do this so that you don't get caught by a rogue dialler! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Thanks both.
I only have one BT socket and am using a filtered splitter to plug in the landline and the BB modem. I did try my luck at adding the old splitter to the new one one (the phone side of course) but doesn't work, no dial tone on phone. Looks like I will just have struggle with the socket and splitter each time. I could have a free trial of Efax but that would only solve the problem for one month = one fax. I am signed up with them to receive faxes.M.E..... MORE than you know0 -
There is no real reason why the splitter should not work,
Is it the type that came with the PC,
A cable to go into your modem then the socket at the other end that fits into the BT socket with a scocket to plu you phone into, ??0 -

The old splitter is designed for two phone "plugs" so I also have an adapter in one of the sockets then the modem in that. Worked perfectly so long as I was using dial-up. Do you think that if I got a splitter with one modem and one phone socket - so I could ditch the adapter - it would more likely work?? I'd like to get it going also in case the BB connection was ever to fail - I'd be able to fall back on my PAYG dial-up account.M.E..... MORE than you know0 -
Thanks superpacman, that does seem like a viable option. Will give it a try tomorrow when I need to Fax my repeat prescription request to the surgery. they quite understandably refuse to take these by phone. :TM.E..... MORE than you know0

from the BT socket you should have
1. The adsl filter which is split with a phone socket and the adsl Modem socket
2. on the phone socket you want the BT splitter with a. your phone plugged in and B the normal modem plugged in
If this setup is not working connect the normal modem directly to the phone socket of the ADSL filter and check this works
if this works then it is likely to be the splitter that you have0 -
This should be you setup
Where it says telephone this should have the spliiter in
1 for the the phone a 2 for the normal modem0 -
Thanks for that lee634. Yes that is how I set it up, with as I say the addition of the adapter in one side of the second splitter. I will try your suggestion though probably tomorrow now as out of energy. I thought perhaps the filtered phone line wasn't capable of being split, so didn't really experiment further. :AM.E.....
