New WB boiler or stick with Old Glow Worm?

I have a twenty year old Glow Worm Space Saver boiler that is in good working order and has had a new thermocouple, injector unit and new valve installed in the past couple of years via a BG homecare contract. I am thinking of replacing it with a more modern WB unit but was wondering whether I would see a big saving on my gas use.
I have a 1930's 3 bedroom semi with 270mm loft insulation and CWI. The replacement boiler is a WB 18Ri and will cost £1300 to install.

leave it be, it will last for another 20yrs, or wait until april for the Gov grant of £400.
The only problem besides the gas valve and thermocouple on these boilers are ketteling in the heat exchanger. And this can be cleaned with a flush.0 -
Thanks for the advice Plumb1.
If I did have it replaced how much saving do you think I would make on my gas bills?
Thanks0 -
i saved about 30% on my gas bill, by changing my old baxi bermuda to a new vaillant condensing combi.Get some gorm.0

take plumb 1's good advice. you won't see that much of a saving in gas to justify spending £1300. ormus, how much per month do you save, and how much was the vailant?
it's greener not to scap the boiler if if it's working
there are other factors too. the baxi wasnt that good. the new combi is just brilliant.
new boiler is far more efficient. house is warmer.
and do you know what price gas will be next year? 2011? 2012? 2013?
(only the one downside, the bath take ages to fill up).Get some gorm.0 -
Thanks for the advice all.
The reason for looking to replace the unit was that BG have sent me my renewal for my Homecare cover and it has increased by 18%. I have queried this but their attitude is take it or leave it. As stated above, the bolier has had several parts replaced and I am thinking of cancelling the Homecare and banking the money each month towards a new boiler then replacing it when it next breaks down.
How competitive is £1300 for WB 18Ri to be fitted including a Magnaclean?0 -
the priority is to cancel the homecare cover.
its very expensive and BG are useless too.
put the same money into a cookie jar and save it up. call it the CH fund if you like.Get some gorm.0 -
Try http://www.homeserve.com/, I paid £10/month for boiler cover last year.0
