can anyone tell me whether my mothers mortgage provider can charge her £25 to look at a new policy she has taken out after she declined to renew with her company to whom she had been loyal to for over 20 yrs but who could'nt offer her a competetive renewal quote.

Yes they can, I assume she is with Brittainia.
If you complain about the charge and mention how she has been paying well over the odds for the last twenty years they sometimes waive the charge.
P.S Brittainia often levy the charge each time you change Insurer0 -
Lots of insurers do not advertise this, but they will refund the charges made by your mortgage company if you ask them to. Saga used to be very good at that, but you need to send them a receipt for the charge.
Phone your mum's new insurers and ask them what their policy is.In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
They have an interest in the property and therefore entitled to ensure the property is appropriately insured. £25 is more or less the industry standard and as Oscar says, many insurers will refund it (though some only if its agreed before closing the deal on the sale)All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
