windscreen claim

Am I right that a glass only claim (windscreen and side window) will not affect the no claims bonus?

And a claim for the two windows together will only have the one excess charge?

Comments

  • more than likely no affect

not sure about claiming for two, maybe if it was the same incident that caused it you pay one excess?

Have a look in your policy doc

If it is one incident then it would generally be one excess, if it's two incidents then it would generally be two excesses.

Bear in mind some (Not all) Insurers will no load the premium slightly if you have a windscreen claim or claims

If you change insurers make sure you declare windscreen claims. I didn't think about them when giving info to MoreThan and they suspended my insurance when they found out about them.

I've probably had 4 or 5 windscreens replaced by insurance in 20 years of driving and it has never affected my no-claims

It's important that you do! Even though it shouldn't affect your premium.

I'm now intrigued. What single incident would smash a windscreen and a side window without causing additional damage? (apart from vandalism which from this previous post by the OP, I suspect is not the case http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=27749961&postcount=5 )

Stealing wheels is not what your average common scum vandal would do, so my point still stands. (I'll add another post to that thread to keep this one on topic).

It was a friend of mines car in the street where I live, there was a witness who saw some guy arrive in a car with a girlfriend who was driving the car. The guy allegedly was knocking on a house front door and getting no answer. After this he motioned the girl to hide the car in an alley and 'get ready' he then took out a bat and smashed my friends car windscreen and side window -I heard the noise and looked out but didn't see anything heard a couple of cars accelerate hard, but I couldn't ignore this loud noise so I went out side to check and saw my friends car had been hit.- 5 mins later the witness arrived to say what he had seen, he had driven away at the same time, which explains why I heard 2 cars accelerate. He didn't get the plate no. unfortunately.

This looks like it was a vendetta 'hit' his car just happened to be parked outside the wrong house at the wrong time. The people in the house although they answered the door to us, denied that anyone had been knocking on their front door ten minutes earlier.

We have very little to go on so that's the end of that.

    The car has been fixed.

Agreed, note the average scum nicks wheels & tyres. It's the financially savvy ones that do since they know what they can flog 'em for ;)
