Help and Advice please?

My circumstances changed in January meaning i had to go on Jobseekers and claim childtax credits from income support. I did not recieve any money from them for nearly 10 weeks, meaning i used up my overdraft, and ended up going into an unplanned overdraft, followed by bank charges. When childtax finally did pay the money owing, it was literally used up in paying dd and bank charges. when i rang up the bank up distraught, the said they could extend my overdraft as they had taken all my money in charges, i agreed as i had no money what so ever. It seems like i am not getting anywhere, and it is really getting me down. Has anybody got any advise for me as to which way to turn, where to start etc etc? And also would there be any chance of getting the money back from having to extend the overdraft due to bank charges?
Any help gratefully recieved, this is getting me really down. :(

  • I got in a similar pickle and got out of it by opening another account (with a different bank) and making an arrangement to repay my overdraft. Never had a problem with my current bank, but then they weren't charging me about £70 a week in charges.

Not sure about reclaiming at the moment, I'm sure someone will be along in a moment.

    Q. How likely is it I will get my money back?

    A. Much less likely than prior to the result, but not impossible. Still, the best thing to do is plan for getting nothing, but cross your fingers.

As we know many people would like a 'what's the chance' type answer, our instinctive guess is even with the new argument there is only a 10-20% chance of most people now getting charges back.
