Didn't enjoy the Poundshop program, simply because it was half an hour of pointing out the bleeding obvious. We all know that the poundshop is half cheap branded items with some cheap tat in and amongst. I thought it would be more documenting someone who did all their Christmas shopping from the Poundshop, in effect it was just a family testing random stock. Result - branded items good, non branded items hit and miss.

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
I could not believe the woman in the £1 programme, saying that she was pleased that all the Christmas decorations this year cost her only £30-something (can't remember the exact figure)! That amount is crazy, extortionate! Why did she need all that plastic cr*p anyway, there are so many nicer and cheaper ways to decorate for Christmas! Does she not save decorations from a year to the next?

I actually use the 99p shops occasionally, they have some rare gems, I found a lot of organic food there which is end of line, or discontinued in shops (pasta, peanut butter and other bits and pieces over the years). Their coffee lines are also good, I have found Douwe Egbert there before, which DS likes very much.

That programme really managed to show how snobbery is rife and how so many people really have no idea how to shop in a discerning way!

I loved the Victorian Farm Christmas, though, I watched it with DH and DS who both had enjoyed the Victorian Farm series before and we really enjoyed this one, too.

Can't wait for Christmas drugs programme (goodness knows I NEED drugs to see me through Christmas! hehe).
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

We watched the pound shops program. I was surprised that they were buying new decorations and a little puzzled that they needed a small xmas tree in the same room as the larger one(she spent £24 on the poundland decs). The battery test was interesting because although the pound batteries lasted 1 /3rd of the £6 batteries, you could still get twice as much electricity from the same amount of money spent. The kiddies car comparison seemed a little unfair as the plastic car was obviously a tough toddler type car while the pound car was a toy for someone of about 5.

    My thoughts exactly, culpepper.

They should have shown more of the 'posh' food bargains that can be bought in poundshops. I've got Rowse Honey for £1.25, lovely silver canisters of Plantation Reserve Demerera Sugar for 49p, those Duchy Teabags (Charlie boy's), Kallo Organic Vegetable stock cubes, some very nice Mayonnaise, Mint Sauce, Organic Peanut Butter, Organic Chocolate Spread (can't remember the manufacturers) even 24's of oxo cubes for 99p (12 for 84p in most supermarkets!)
  • I watched xmas for a pound felt programme could have done with being an hr long and thought it was going to be more about interviewing those that do already shop there.

Was shocked that family spent £1500 on xmas and were cutting down to £500!!! We spend around £300 each yr and could cut down if we wanted or needed to but was sooo shocked!!
