Just had a quick google search and a Dell Vostro 410 uses a Foxconn DG33A01 Motherboard (intel G33 chipset) which by the sound of it only supports DDR2 667 or DDR2 800, some motherboard manufacturers ie Asus and ECS tweek their G33 motherboards to support DDR2 1066
A perfect example of a manufacturer building a PC that is just not the sum of all its parts. Why oh Why stick a high performance Processor on a slow Motherboad. I am sure it does work well but it reminds me why I self build.

Well it gives them good advertising copy, headline the processor, then cripple it with under specified board, graphics, and the classic Dell trick, a cheapo PSU that is running on the ragged edge just to keep the profit margin high enough. reminds me why I self build also, not to mention I get to choose my OS.

You're right, but I did get it for £107 delivered...

Is it hard to change the motherboard at some point in future? Will the CPU and cooler come off in a oner?

DDR2 800 ram here, works well. P35 motherboard was a good match for the processor at the time not sure about now.
    matched betting: £879.63

A motherboard swap isn't hard to do in a standard ATX system. Dell can use non standard parts but a brief look on the internet suggests this one uses an ATX motherboard.

You take off the cooler, then remove the CPU by releasing the lever and opening up the retention mechanism on the socket. With a standard cooler you twist the 4 pushpins anti clockwise and pull the cooler up to remove it.

Totally agreed with you, but perhaps its all to do with costing, a nasty Foxconn Motherboard bought bulk is a lot cheaper than an Asus P5 Motherboard.

And Yes thats the reasons why I self build aswell

because punters just see the quad, teaming it with a £30 motherboard is a waste..but most people don't know that :(

WOW!!! you could sell the CPU for more than that, the q6600 is an overclocker's friend...and can go very, very high (on a decent mobo :) )

cooler should unclip (rotate the 4 studs 90 degrees) and the CPU is under a cover. if you do replace the motherboard be sure to clean off any thermal paste from the CPU and cooler and re-apply fresh
