I have gone back to environmental health to get them to do that check that someone mentioned above just waiting for them to arrange it. Ive also got a building contractor to do a free damp survery on the house next week, he mentioned something about vents in windows to help solve the problem. If they both say theres nothing structurally wrong then I guess I just have to lump it and continue with the dehumidifier and windows opening.
My Landlord did damp proof one wall of my house but he uses his "odd Job Bloke" who really does not know what he is doing so it has not solved the problem, enviromental health tried to say it was the rain splashing up from the road outside as the cars went past but the damp goes right up to the cieling so thats rubbish.
I did not know there was pet friendly slug pellets, I have been using salt but its not much use when it rains, tried putting the salt on the inside of the back door to catch them as they came in but waking up to exploded slugs all over the back door step was just too much lol, i'll have to try the pellets or maybe get a pet hedgehog :rotfl:0 -

anotherginger - happy to explain. Misunderstanding the various roles of the many different LA departments/sections is common. Even staff can be clueless about what other sections within their own departmens do, so it's not surprising 'customers' are confused.
Environmental health officers (EHOs) deal with public/environmental health matters/standards - their role is not limited to the LA's housing stock and covers commercial and residential issues as varied as food safety, noise, pollution, disease control and housing conditions etc. The job is science based and one would need either a degree or masters in Environmental Health.
Housing officers/estate managers/housing managers deal with housing management/tenancy services/income recovery etc for a registered social landlord's housing stock - the titles vary depending on how specialised or generic the role. There are no particular educational requirements needed to become a housing officer . Some say it's a 'common sense' role, others disagree... strongly!
Hope that helps.Opinion, advice and information are different things. Don't be surprised if you receive all 3 in response.0 -
Thanks for the advice everyone. Landlord responded to the council but still hasnt answered me! strange.
Apparently we are getting a company in to do a proper check on all the walls and floorboards.
The council phoned me to let me know today and since the intial visit they have decided its rising damp now instead of condensation! I have no idea why they changed their minds without coming back to look.0
