how can i edit some music?

anyone good at editing pieces of music??
I have 2 karaoke tracks hat i want to burn to cd. Each karaoke track begins after 10 seconds, this means when put them onto cd I have to wait 10 seconds for the first song to begin, then there is the fade out. once the song has finished i have to then wait another 10 seconds for the second song to kick in.
I don't want to wait between songs, what I would like is the first song to begin then some of the fade out cutting away and the second song to begin shortly afterwards.
I don't want the uncomfortable wait between songs.
Now, is there anyone who is good at music editing, I really dont think i have any software on my pc to use (im not experianced enough to use them anyway) The only software I have is Nero and that has Wave Editor on but not sure if this is right to cut and edit music tracks.
Any assistance out here please.
I need to try and sort this before weekend as i have a little (2 song) gig at a party and would like the music to be perfect and begin and not really have much of a break, otherwise im stood on stage like a lemon when the first track is fading out and waiting for the next to begin

Audacity is free and will do that job no problem. You won't have any trouble doing it yourself - there are loads of simple tutorials out there.

I find gold wave very good for this sort of thing too.
I mostly use it to boost volume of tracks by 10% or so.

Audacity is good, you can also try with soundforge but its not free.0

Agreed - I have used Audacity to get audio cassette tapes onto the PC / MP3 player.
It is reasonably straight forward, and you can easily edit out the first blank period as you can 'see' the music in waveforms.0
