Just a warning!
I have received an email from what seems to be HM Revenue and Customs saying I am entitled to a tax refund.
I know I'm not because I dont pay tax.
The email is from service@hmrc.gov.uk (refund.hmrc@yahoo.co.uk)
Beware of this email as in the email is an attachment. THIS IS A VIRUS!
As you scroll down the email it asks for credit/debit card details in order to "refund" you.
DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM!
I have reported this to HM Revenue and Customs aswell as the Police.

HMRC take online security seriously and if you click the Online security link on it's homepage - http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/index.htm you can go through to find details of all scams etc that they are currently aware of and warning the puiblic about.
HMRC do not email the public to tell them of supposed refunds of tax due to them. Paper is still their preferred method of correspondence.
Think of it this way though - how would they get your email address if you haven't given it to them. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I got this e mail about a month ago now and have to say it looks good and whoever did it made the site look like it was from HMRC but i knew it was a scam when they asked for credit card details.0

refund.hmrc@yahoo.co.uk is the giveaway, and as we all know the Govt & HMRC never giveaway anything.0

My inlaws received on as well as one of my clients. Its easy saying what is a give away to these emails, and that they would write, but think of those elderly or people that have never used HMRC before, Getting this email just before Christmas for a refund of £846, which includes references numbers similar to HMRCs numbers. then some will fill in the form. This email was asking for Credit Card details - and again HMRC would pay it directly into your bank.0
