soooo stressed......tax credits....and annoyed

Hi,

I received a letter a while back over a tax credit claim, Basically they are looking into year 2008-2009 and asked for bank statements, payslips, p60's etc.

I sent them all the information I had and also a letter from my husbands solicitor to inform them he was made redundant in 2008 and was not paid for 4 months.

Today I received a letter asking about details of a standing order I have on my account??? The standing order is to my neighbour who took us to court over a civil dispute for £100 a month..... Why would they need details of what has come out of my account??? I have not claimed childcare or anything???

Also They put on the letter that they note from their system I was unemployed from 6th april to 20th april..... I have phone work and they have said that I took a career break from work from aug2007-march 2008 so my only conclusion is I was late on telling them I returned to work.. Am I going to get told off for this.....

I am so worried all the time about this................. The first letter said it was a random annual review... but everytime I send them what they ask for I get another letter asking for things....

Reading between the lines I'm guessing they are investigating the periods you and/or your husband have claimed to have been employed/unemployed and your entitlement to Working Tax credit (WTC). They are also looking at the amount of money coming into your accounts compared to what income you have declared on your annual declaration

If you receive WTC based on working so many hours per week but the income you declare at the end of the year does not equate to at least the minimum wage then this raises a question within the tax credit system.

Similarly if someone declares less self-employed profits on the annual declaration than they subsequently declare on their tax return this raises a flag too.

Theres no need to worry though. If you have made an error Tax credits will amend the relevant dates and recalculate your entitlement for 2008/2009. If an overpayment results and you still have an ongoing live claim they will recover it from that.
