Boxing Day parking in London warning.

On my local television news, they have reported that Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea WILL be enforcing parking restrictions on 26th December despite it being a holiday. They claim that because it falls on a saturday, the next monday (28th) will be classed as the Boxing day holiday.
This may change due to public pressure, but be warned if you intend to hit the sales.

Nice to see the spirit of Christmas is alive and kicking in London.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

To be fair (can't believe I said that!) the Saturday after the sales with no parking restrictions in central london would be absolute carnage.

This is nothing new. It should never be assumed that all restrictions are relaxed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Good Friday or any other holiday unless the sign specifically says "except bank holidays". Pay and display meters on the other hand are different. Under their hours of operation, there will be a mention of whether Sundays and Bank Holidays are free or not.
Be guided by the signs.0 -
And yet Westminster don't enforce parking on Easter Saturday.0

It's more than just the inner London Boroughs, apparently others will be charging too. A**eholes.0

But they're trying to justify it by saying it's not a bank holiday which is why it's so confusing. Even where it says "except bank holidays" people will still be charged. This is despite the councils closing all their facilities on Boxing Day, er, because it's a bank holiday! Madness.0 -
A few years ago a friend got a ticket in Putney for parking on the street on a yellow line on a public holiday, the day after New Years Day which was a public holiday. It was also a weekday. The council said that the fact it was a public holiday did not alter parking restrictions which were only eased at weekends not weekdays.0

They're taking the !!!! if they think they can close all the libraries and other public facilities on the grounds that it's a bank holiday, but claim it isn't a bank holiday in order to charge people for parking on the first day of sales. I bet loads of people park without paying thinking that it's a bank holiday and get tickets. The councils will be laughing.0

Perhaps a good time to 'bait the PPCs' by choosing to park in a private car park for a few hours while you shop (e.g. park in a Supermarket car park then go shopping in town) over the Christmas hols!

Anyone else with me!?! The week between Christmas and New Year's day inclusive!
P.S. obviously avoid any Council car parks and any car parks with a clamping sign, check that carefully first then shop and laugh at the sad attempt at a ticket you'll find on your return.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

You should click here for information on what Westminster are doing over Christmas and New Year. Their single yellow line rules vary from zone to zone, they have a clickable map which tells you the times for each zone.
