This is the result from uSwitch comparision. Is it posssible to pay for higer price per unit plus extra standing order yet still save 157 pounds a year?
Your current plan : Scottish PowerPrice Energy Online Dual Fuel
·
o Gas unit rates: 2.769p per kWh
o Electricity unit rates: 9.627p per kWh
* These rates include VAT- the rates on your bill may exclude VAT· Annual bill: £678.17
Your cheapest Dual Fuel plan : NPower
·
o Gas unit rates: £67.200 Annual standing charge 3.209p per kWh
o Electricity unit rates: £57.750 Annual standing charge 9.765p per kWh
This is the discount for the new plan from NPower. It is not even enough to compensate for the extra standing orders. How come I can still save 157 pounds for paying for high price?
Discounts- Dual Fuel Discount: £63.00
- Gas Monthly Direct Debit Discount: £21.00
- Electricity Monthly Direct Debit Discount: £21.00

You are not comparing like with like!
On Scottish Power you have excluded the 'standing charge' of xxP for the first yykWh.
NPower I believe give a discount of £100 after 12 months with the account.
Are you paying both by the same method? or is SP pay quarterly Npower by DD?
Etc Etc
To work out accurately if uswitch are correct you have to enter the annual consumption in kWh and then check all the various terms and conditions.
Bear in mind that the sole objective of uswitch is to get you to switch so they get their commission(a public service they ain't!!) so they will present prices so a switch looks attractive.
EDIT. You amended your post while I was typing!0 -
Thanks for the reminding, cardew. The comparision was based annual consumption in KWh. I missed the standing order from SP. So at scottish power I pay 143 pound standing order and get back 63 pounds discount; at NPower I pay 125 pound standing order and get back 105 pounds discount. That is a saving of 60 pounds. OK if I can get extra 100 pounds discount after 12 month, plus some cash back with swith over service. That is some saving.0

Check on that £100 first - Npower's tariffs change.0
