help, nightmare new windows

Options
Hi, i got new windows in July, i specifically asked the salesman for a certain type of window and he said it wouldn't be a problem, but the windows that were fitted didn't have the catches that i requested.

i complained straight away, but have been going round in circles ever since, i eventualy spoke to an area manager, who informed me that they didn't proide windows with the catches that i had requesed, and he offered me £200 cashback, i accepted as i felt i had no choice, he said that because i didn't discuss the catches with the surveyor and nothing was put on the paperwork that i didn't have a leg to stand on, but i want to know what my options are, where do i stand with this, is he right?

i signed the paperwork for payment as i felt pressured into it when 2 of the office team came out to my home, as yet i still haven't had my cashback and i have already started paying for my windows - i took them out on credit

Contact them and ask them for it...'quoting' their offer?

Tell them politely that you're unhappy with their service and that you will ask the local newspaper's 'watchdog' reporter to intervene if they don't honour their offer. It might scare them into paying in order to avaid bad press in their home town (where most of their potential customers are). If they call your bluff, speak to Trading Standards or CAB.
Always contact them by letter (recorded delivery) so you can prove you complained as soon as you noticed the problem, and always include a 'resolve by' date (eg, 7 or 10 days) or the matter will drag on for so long that you will have run out of time to make a complaint.
  • thanks for your replies,

i have contacted the company constantly since the issue began in june, i have now been advised that the original paperwork issuing the cashback has been lost by head office, and replacements have been sent, i was promised a callback on friday, but as is normal practice for this company, the call never came.

i will be calling them tomorrow to politely demand action or i will be taking legal action, fortunately i have free legal help through my work, maybe i should have used it before now, but unfortunately wasn't emotionally strong enough due to other issues- note to self, make note of all calls and letters sent to back up any legal action required.

nb - this is a very well known company, advertising constantly on scottish tv at present, i'm unsure if i'm allowed to name them so haven't, but if you are thinking of buying new windows, try any company that doesn't begin with W

    thanks again
