Incorrect bank charge

My bank have sent me an incorrect 'monthly unauthorised overdraft charge'. I have checked carefully and my account was definitely in credit on that day. I phoned once before and the man on the other end claimed I was overdrawn on that day. I then went into my branch and had a statement for every transaction on the account since it was opened printed out. I checked it very carefully and actually had £1000+ credit on the day I was supposedly overdrawn. Before I phone them again is there anything I should say to get the charge overturned? And more to the point, now that they have broken their terms and conditions, would I have any claim to charging them/receiving compensation.

Are you certain that credit amount showing on your account was CLEARED funds. ie were they paid in 3 to 5 days prior?0

Just provide the evidence you have - the bank will either agree with you or explain the error you have made

I phoned them up again and this time the guy agreed with me. The charge was definitely an error on their part so he reversed it (the money had already been taken from my account). I asked what compensation the bank gave in such instances and he seemed puzzled.
So apparently if I go £20 overdrawn they can charge me £120 in fees, but when they illegaly take money from my account they don't have to pay me a penny as long as they give the money back when I phone up and ask for it.
I am really not a fan of bankers at the moment.0 -
I'll send you a photocopy of one of their charging letters. If you amend it to say the bank have gone over their limit they should send you a cheque for £39. Then again if your bank charges by the day you may be entitled to ask for more.0
