If you have no joy, dispute the transaction with the CC company and they will be obliged to investigate on your behalf and refund.

Problem is, it's a debit card not a credit card :(. Not sure what the ruling is on those.

Get your card provider to do a chargeback. The hotel may have retained the data - but you haven't authorised / nor is there ...... a justifiable charge.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

Thanks you. I'm making a note of that.

  • Bogof_babe have you asked for the chargeback yet?

There is a finite window of opportunity for the card issuer to apply a chargeback and if you wait too long they won't

I'm away from home at the moment, but OH went to the bank today and they said there is no sign of the money being on its way. They didn't seem very inclined to offer any suggestions.

Anyway I emailed the hotel earlier, and have had a reply with an attached copy of the refund document they say they raised. When I get home I will print it off and take it to the bank, and see if that helps trace it at all.

I found a discussion about chargebacks on a consumer forum today, and it seemed to imply that these only work for European transactions, although they weren't 100% sure on that.

I'm full of flu (not swine I hope) and feeling rubbish, so not up to doing anything much pro-active at the moment. I'll sort it out next week when hopefully I'm back on my feet.
