Home Insurance - Where to find the answers?

We have recently bought a shared ownership home in a 54 flat development and have buildings insurance covered in our service charges.
I'm looking for contents insurance only and trying to follow Martins guide to do so.
The comparison sites want to know things like what the roof is made of and rebuild figures despite the fact that i want contents only.
Where can i find out weather the complex is tiled/asphelt. The rebuild cost etc?

You should be able to find out what type of roof it has by looking at the survey you had carried out when you bought it or if you did not have a survey you may find it is noted on the valuation the mortgage company arranged.
If you are entering the property as a flat the comparison sites should realise you don't need building insurance (You would have thought).0 -
As it was brand new we didn't have a survey but i will certainly look back in the pack and try to find the valuation that was done.
Out of interest would my bank have a copy of this?
you would have thounght they would think like that but it's not the case i'm afraid!0 -
Your bank normally have the valuation as it's for their benefit, there is often a copy in the pack they give you0

You still need to know construction and roof for contents insurance, flat roofs leak and damage PCs and TVs under them as much as they do the ceiling itself. Most insurers forms dont ask how many floors there are nor what floor you are in (other than if your ground or not often)All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
