Laser Printer Woes

Ok its an Epson AcuLaser C900, it prints black fine but wont print colours, some are worse than others.

When you look at diagnostics although the colour toners are lowish, so is the black. The photoconductor unit is showing as running low as well, so I'm wondering if this is at fault? There is also the tranfer unit which could be replaced as well.

Anyone got any ideas as to what the problem could be?

What exactly does the photoconductor unit do?

Cheers:beer:

A photoconductor is a material that only conducts electricity when exposed to light.

A laser printer users a light beam from a laser to control placement of electric charges on a photoconductor surface. The photoconductor only lets charges move when the laser hits it. The printer uses a corona discharge to put charges on the darkened photocondtor and then uses the laser to remove chrages from places. This gives the results that the electric charges make the image of the print. The toner particles are actually a kind of black plastic and have an electric charge. This means that they are repelled by certain bits on the photoconductor and attracted to other bits. This pattern is then transferred onto the paper and fused with heat and pressure (which is why paper is always nice and warm when it comes out the laser :) )

Having said that, I have no idea why black toner is ok for you, but the colours aren't. It's easy to damage the photoconductor by exposing it to too much light - so it's possible that your photoconductor has been damaged in this way, and maybe the coloured particles have different charges and so have more problems forming the pattern when the photoconductor is damaged?

    Cheers for that.

Has anyone got any idea why it wont print the colours properly? :(
