Abbey/Santander card application nonsense

in Credit cards
I applied for an Abbey/Santander credit card at the end of November. As of yesterday, I still hadn't heard a decision as to whether I've been 'successful'. So, I phoned them up to see. After ringing the number advertised but 3 times getting through to a Virgin call centre (despite being given the 'right' number by people in this call centre!) I finally got through to an Abbey representative.
He basically told me that 'they' (i.e. those who make the decision) are more likely to give a decision if you 'chase them up'. And pretty much implied that they wouldn't bother unless I did in fact keep hassling them! "Phone back on Saturday," he said "and see if a decision has been made then"!
What has it come to that we the consumers have to chase up a company to cajole them into giving us their business?!?!

I had a similar issue - never heard anything from them so called a few days ago to be advised that "unfortunately on this occassion I have been declined and that they would get the rejection letter sent out so that I can appeal" !!!!!!? Why don't they just send out the rejection as standard!!
Think I might appeal it as otherwise it's a wasted credit search!Saving Pennies, Losing pounds0 -
I applied 6 weeks ago and rang them the other day. The woman told me that i'd been sent an application pack at the end of nov. Still waiting, and not really sure why they'd make me apply again?
