Transfer of leasehold property

Hi
My son in law has recently been given a leasehold flat by his father.
He has registered the change in ownership with the land registery via a TR1 & AP1 & ID1 for both parties.
Does he need to advise the owner of the freehold and have the lease transfered to him.

Yes, most flat leases provide that when the flat changes hands or is mortgaged then notice of this has to be given to the freeholder and a fee paid for registering the notice. He will need to look to see what the lease says and if it lays down a specific fee or leaves it vague like a "reasonable fee" which means in practice the freeholder can charge what likes! Anything more than £100 is clearly unreasonable.and have the lease transfered to him.
It has already been transferred! Just because the original lease document is made between the original landlord and the original lessees does not mean that it gets altered. It stays the same but he now owns it - that what the TR1 did and he registered it at the Land Registry using AP1 and ID1.RICHARD WEBSTER
