Second hand car - buy now, buy January?

We have chosen the make and model of second hand car we like and are currently shopping around. But - would we get a better deal by buying now (before the end of the month) or in January? I imagine both are quite slow times for salesmen - when do you think they will be more desperate!?

  • i cant imagine there being much difference what so ever, i would concentrate on getting the perfect car rather than trying to save a few quid

As above, getting the right car more important. People generally too busy with Christmas to be buying cars right now, a number of car salemen have told me New Years day onwards is quite busy for them.

If you see the actual car you want, buy it when it suits you.

Now will be a bit more of an opportunity to 'deal', but most garages will know what they can & can't sell a vehicle for, whenever you want it.

There isn't a lot of 'bargains' being sold through the auctions, so that means there are even less on the forecourts.

Incedently, my best ever sales awer always over the Christmas period (selling vans) as many working customers had a bit more time to spare, while on the holiday break.

& actually would have sold on Christmas Day, if I'd heard them knock on the door, once - people up viusiting relatives, had a look at my stock, decided which van they wanted & were there Boxing Day morning to buy it!!

Alsways said selling was the 'easy' bit. Buying, restocking, preparing, servicing & everything else, isn't!!

After a Peugeot 308SW, but the SE full spec version with extra seats. As it has only been out 18 months, the only ones on the market seem to be at dealerships (where we live, at least). There are 4 or 5 about, spread between about 3 reasonably close locations. Just thinking how to play it!
