Advice needed for ageing mum

My mum is of advancing years (75) but still wants to hold onto her independence and live in her own house. Suffering from a number of debilitating illnesses, emphysema been the worst, and needing oxygen supplied 24 hours per day, she really is in need of constant care. We try to do as much as we can as a family but can't be there 24/7. Is there any advice out there as to where to start, what I've seen so far is a minefield

Needing oxygen full time doesn't mean that you necessarily need constant care (my husband has emphysema and is in this position as well) although her other conditions may mean so. Does she have any provision for ambulatory oxygen so that she can get out of the house, as this is really important for both her health and independence?

Social Services is your first port of call. They can probably get her some sort of care package in place that allows her to keep a lot of her independence

Do visit the British Lung Foundation site.

    http://www.lunguk.org/

Lots of help and advice there.
