Urmmmmmmm at some point along the supply pipework to the shower you may have a ballofix valve, which you can turn off using a screwdriver and stop the water dripping, until you can get hold of your plumber.

As TJ says, there may be a ballofix valve in the supply pipework to turn off the supply to the shower.

I assume by power shower you actually mean an electric shower? A pumped shower would not suffer this problem unless the pump was running on.

If I am correct it sounds that your solenoid is sticking or blocked. I would try removing the shower head, draping the hose in the bath and turning the shower on and off to try and free up he solenoid.

This may work, but apart from that it's a new solenoid.

IMO more like the seals in you shower valve need replacing, and not the pump.

Maybe you could let us know the make and model of the shower.

thanx for your replies and apologies for the delay in replying!well, as its only water and it was going down the correct place i was willing to wait till my plumber friend would get back to me,but my partner panicked and called her friend who just happened to know a guy, anyway he turned up and fitted a cap to it and basically said the shower was knackered and he would be quite willing to fit a new one when we get one. quite reasonable £25 for a few minutes work!!!! and then sods law happened and my regular plumbing friend got in touch!
anyway its a showerstream and i think its more than 8yrs old as thats the time weve lived here.perhaps you are right about the seals and solenoids,i will give it a go as your recomm'd and let you know how i get on.just because a thing is old no reason to throw it out if it can be fixed!
oh,it has 2 pipes in it as i believe this is how you can tell if its a powershower so i have been told.cheers and thanx again.
