vicx - Yes you are right. With gift receipts they are exchange only. I don't know the true reason why, but I can only guess that it is an easy way of keeping the business within the company. If that makes sense. Having money put onto a gift card is eventually going to end as an exchange at the very least.:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:D:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:jMe and the gang!!!0

Yeah, I noticed it says refunds on gift receipts will be ono a gift card. Does this mean that even if the original receipt is provided that it will only be an exchange or refund onto a gift card?
I bought a few christmas presents out of River Island & Next and I was told that refunds are not given if a gift receipt has been printed, only exchanges or refunds onto gift cards. It seems like they are doing it so people don't return their christmas gifts and purchase them again at a cheaper price in the sales.A home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0 -

If you give the original receipt back with method of payment you'll get a refund even if it says 'Gift Receipt printed for item'
Exceptions -
Even if you give someone the original receipt and you paid by card then without the card they'll only get a gift card or exchange, if you paid cash, they'll get cash.
However a gift receipt is just that, it's for the reciever. It's mainly so they can get the full value of the item exchanged or onto a gift card after Christmas when many items are reduced or discontinued at sale time.
A gift receipt is not a proof of payment hence the lack of cash or card refund0 -

That is not what I was told when I purchased christmas presents from Next and River Island last week. If they have printed a gift receipt they will only allow exchanges or refunds onto a gift card, even with the original receipt.
I will ask in Debenhams today if they refund on items bought as a gift for someone else with the original and gift receipt.A home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0 -

You were misinformed.
Technically the gift receipt can still be used as only the original transaction receipt is voided when a return takes place however new software should prevent the gift reciept being used
Trust me, from my position within one of those afore mentioned companies, if you have the original reciept you will get your refund, aside from the exceptions mentioned in previous post0
