Sky don't reward good customers

I am really peeved as after going on at my hubby for months about moving us onto the Sky broadband package to save us money, he rang them to be told that we are out of the exchange and so we can't have the £10 deal that they are advertising every 4 minutes on the tv!

Then he asked about getting a Sky HD box for downstairs if he signs up to the movies for another 12 months. When we got the Sky HD box, it was already discounted but that was when Sky HD first came out so perhaps 3 years ago!

We have a fairly high package cost with movies, hd and multiroom but apparently being a good customer, always paying on time by direct debit and having a premium service isn't rewarded in any way!

What a flamin cheek! I would go with Virgin if I thought that it was worth the hassle of getting swtiched. I am so mad!

Sky are running a business not a charity

I imagine the vast majority of it's 6 million customers pay on time and have high packages.

Why should they give you a free HD box just because you sign up to movies?

And it's not Sky's fault you live in an area where this no exchange enabled yet.

Sky is a luxury not a right, you want it, you pay for it.

My point was that new customers are being offered a sky box if they sign up to movies for 12 months. We were willing to do this but we aren't being offered a box so paying for the same service but being treated differently.

I am fully aware that Sky are running a business and don't begrude them their profit.

I thank you for your input but perhaps you could be a little more polite

  • But you aren't a new customer. Sky are trying to increase market share, and offering HD boxes to new customers is one way of doing this. You aren't a new customer so there's no point in them giving you one as it wouldn't make any difference to their customer base.

I got the hump with Sky ages ago about things like this so I phoned up to cancel. As soon as I mentioned the word cancel to them they put me through to someone who offered me 50% off my contract for 3 months so I stayed with them for the extra 3 months then went to Virgin who I find much better as long as you don't need to speak to customer services :D

Do as hoyles says - ask for the cancellation dept ... threaten to cancel .... but be prepared to go through with it.

  • Not only can you cancel in the hope of getting a better deal, which you very well might get, if he does cancel, you can effectively be the new customer and get the 'new' customer deal.

Sky has something in place whereby you don't qualify as a new customer if you have cancelled in the last 12 months.I may be wrong but it is best to check the website. To be honest, most of programmes on sky are repeats and get boring after a while.
  • An added bonus for Sky is that cable coverage is less than 50% in the UK so anyone wishing access to a majority of premium channels has no choice but to use Sky
  • Sky don't reward any of their customers as they have a monopoly and they know it. Sky charge 3 times, they charge the independant channels to broadcast on their platform, they charge advertisers to show adverts on their channels and they charge the customers to watch these channels. Sky should have been disbanded by the monopolies commision years ago.
