Comparing electricity usage of tumble dryers

Hi all

John Lewis website lists the kWh per cycle of each of the tumble dryers they sell. Is it as simple as multiplier this number by the price per kWh to find out how much each use, on average, the tumble dryer will cost me?

So for instance, 1.9kWh per cycle multiplied by 9.24p per kWh to get a one use cost of 17.55p? Is it really as easy as this to compare electricity use between 2 models, or is it more complex? I understand that my use may vary and cost more or less than the quoted figures, but that's near enough impossible to know to be able to compare.

Basically what I'm trying to work out is if it is worth paying more for an A rated tumble dryer with a 5 year warranty over a cheaper B rated tumble dryer with a 2 year warranty.

Many thanks

Michael.

Yes it is that simple to calculate cost!

However the more important issue is the amount of washing they dry for that amount of energy.

i.e. A cycle to dry 2 hankies on one dryer which costs as much as to dry 10 sheets on another dryer, might influence your choice(I exaggerate but you get my point!!)

This link gives the cost by weight(Kg) - ignore the price of electricity, but it does give a level playing field for comparison.

Both dryers take the same capacity, and as long as the quoted figure is for the same amount of washing at the same level of dampness, I suspect it should be THAT easy to compare the 2. However, none of that information is given away!

I'm getting really confused now as a B rated Bosch has higher energy consumption than a C rated Bosch according to John Lewis. How is this possible?

if the B drier has a larger drum/run time than C drier that could explain; you need to start from what your size/frequency of use need is, and then compare ratings to get the best within that size need; it can be more efficient to use a smaller B drier 3 times a week fully stocked than a large A drier half full twice a week
