I've been having problems for last week, Compaq Armada M700, now it will not fire up at all, it kept shutting down, but now when it's plugged into the mains with and without the battery attached, nothing happens, just a black screen, not wurring sound, nothing, so can't even try to start it up in safe mode.Is it officially dead?

It sounds like the battery has finally given up. Not all laptops can be run without the battery! What does your destruction book say? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

I don't have any instruction manuals or disks, it was a company laptop that I kept when I left the company, on Thursday, the last time it worked it did work without the battery attached for about an hour then shut down.0

You may be able to download a User Manual from their website. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

It will not start at all, just a black screen, so does not get as far as loading windows, yesterday I tried again and the light at the front came on for about a second and then went off again. I don't know if it is the AC lead, but the green light on that is on. The battery, or something internal?0

simple answer: get a new laptop and avoid Compaq like the plague.... along with HP, IBM and cheap Acers.
cheap laptops = crap laptops... simple as0 -
Try taking everything out, battery, hard disk, any PCMCIA cards, and switch it on. If you get anything on screen, or beeps, then switch it off and add them back one by one.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

I'll have a go at unplugging everything, but I have not been brave enough to go inside yet, I've tired with and without the battery and with and without the mains lead, so now I'll have to get my screwdriver out.0
