Nokia bluetooth problem

I've just got a Nokia 5530. When I connect my bluetooth headset to it, it disconnects after about 5 seconds. When connected to my previous nokia it was ok and stayed connected. I went to carphone warehouse and tried it with one of their demo headsets and it was the same. They said no point in buying another headset as it must be the phone settings or software. I cant find any settings to adjust and my software is up to date. Anybody got any ideas please?
