free postage bags from royal mail? for ebay

I notice when I buy alot of stuff from established sellers on ebay, I get a generic style grey tough and durable plastic bag with the item within. Sometimes they have a royal mail insignia on them - are these available in big batches from RM? Im wondering because I have a good product that would be ideal for these bags, and want to cut down on shipping costs.

I only needed 8 and they gave me the special delivery bags for free from my local PO. However, I had to turn them inside out if I wasn't sending by SD as it looked confusing!

Not sure on large volumes, I was answering incase anyone who sells small volumes was interested.

  • I don't think the post office would give them away free but you can buy them quite cheaply on ebay.

    Hope that helps

I heard there used to be a phone number, you could order as many as you needed - but they stopped it. I think they are free for business users.........just a rumour though.......hope someone knows.

yes then later when postage rises and more cuts are made you can sit with your pile of bags
perhaps phone TNT or one of the other downstream access operators for some bags
the bags are for RM customers using the special delivery service, not as a freebie for sellers to save money

thanks for explaining - one thing I have realised is that I have never bought anything with special delivery postage - so obviously quite a few established sellers arent playing by the rules :D

Still, it is the postage that the most profit is to be made by RM, I think the plastic bags are very very cheap to produce in comparison.

They sell these bags in Wilko's too - I always buy mine from there, as it is so much easier than trying to package stuff up in paper etc..

I buy all mine from ebay and if you buy in a bulk they work out to be around 6-10p each depending on size.

I bought 10 for a pound from a pound shop recently. These were quite small ones but ideal for the make up bits and pieces that I have been selling on ebay.
