Water leaking through top of windows

Hi,
just moved into a house which is only 8 years old. When it rains heavily, we have water leaking from near the chimney (but not down the chimney) and now we have it coming through two of the upstairs windows (which are on opposite sides of the house.) The walls are wet around the windows. A glaziercame round yesterday and said it was not the windows, but maybe the cavities??
Does this sound plausible? Any idea how water can get into cavities on such a new house? And any ideas what the remedy might be?
thanks

Problem with the roof I would guess if you are experiencing it at both sides of the house. Does the house have a house builders guarantee (I forget what the acronym is)?

After we built our present house we had water coming in at the top of the patio windows during heavy wind-driven rain. When I investigated I found that the window frames had been set too far forward. This meant that the Catnic lintel over the window was directing the water from the cavity onto the top of the window frame, instead of the outside of the frame. The problem was only fixed by installing new windows correctly positioned, so as to have the drip edge of the lintel outside of the window frame. However, I doubt whether this is your problem, but it might be worth a look BDH1973.

maybe not your problem, but ive seen water tank overflow pipes fed into the brick cavity.
this can lead to water running down inside window reveals.
    Get some gorm.

But as its happening to windows on opposite sides of the house I suspect thats unlikely :)

If it's 8 years old, you will still be inside the NHBC 10 year warranty.

Contact them and claim and let them solve and get to the bottom of it.

You do get moisture in a cavity and above each window there should be a DPM and some weep holes which divert any moisture outside.

However, something else maybe also at fault if you are getting alot of water running in.
