ESA- just passed

Can anyone help?
I had a medical on 21/10/09 and received letter today to say that I have passed and will receive a letter with my increased rate on.

My dilemma is that Tax credits have eventualy decided that we are entitled to an increase in our CTC. ( This is based on the lower rate of ESA).
Dont want to get the extra CTC if the increase is backdated to 21/10/09.
We have had huge problems with tax credits people sending demands for overpayments etc when i had never claimed or received any money in the first place.

After 2 long years of not even receiving the basic CTC they have at last realised that they had me linked to a totally different NINO and account.
The irony is, was that i worked for the DWP at the time and had for 15 years yet they still would not believe i was not getting an increase on my salary.

I digress does anyone happen to know if the increase is backdated so that i can get hubby to call them asap.( i cant as i have no voice long story)

I understand that they pay the assessment rate for the first 13 weeks of the claim. This is based on the idea that this is how long it will take them to assess your claim.

They wouldn't pay the higher rate until they have completed the process but they would have to pay from week 14. This means that they may owe you a backdated payment.

I suggest you use that entitled to website everyone always quotes here, to work out how much you think you should be getting in tax credits. Then if you get more than this, put it in a savings account and don't touch it while you wait for tax credits to reassess. If you aren't entitled to it you will then be able to return it, and if you are then you will have a little rainy day money saved up. Its easier to save when your income goes up (even if it goes from nothing to practically nothing) than it is to try to lose money you have got used to spending!

    I hope this helps

I dont think there is anything to worry about here to be honest but once the award is confirmed give them a ring to settle your self down.
