I think that mobile phones generally were not covered under contents insurance unless you pay an additional premium.
You'll have to check the terms of your insurance or contact your insurer to be sure.No trees were killed to send this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced. - Neil deGrasse Tyson (@neiltyson)0 -
There is a good chance it is covered if you have cover for personal items away from your home.
You will have an excess to pay and it is likely to have an effect on future premiums if you claim.
The simple answer is to ring your Insurers and ask whether its covered0 -
If it is covered the cost of calls wont be tho..I like to think I can help but its for discussion purposes only so if I get it wrong please feel free to correct me.0

When my boyfriend got his iPhone (way back on the day they were first released) they tried to get him to take out insurance for it as it is not covered by any insurance policies other than their own - with different networks now selling the phone too though I don't know if this has changed.Saving Pennies, Losing pounds0

Salesman talk after juicy commission selling you an over priced stand alone mobile phone cover0 -

From the top of my head Churchill & Direct Line will cover a mobile phone and the data on it eg apps and songs but they do not cover the cost of the calls. I think from memory there are other companies
I don't know why people believe the blag from mobile phone shop salesmen, if you lose your phone you are only reponsible for calls before you report the loss / theft. A lot of phone bar international and / or premium line calls unless you take the bar off so they will generally be using your free minutes / texts up and data allowance. You can also reduce the risk further by putting a pin on your phone for all use or certain featues eg international or premium calls.
When you weigh up the restrictions in a stand alone mobile phone policy eg the restrictions in theft and lose cover against the wider cover for these sections under a home policy it is worth considering your home insurance. Obviously take into account any excess and potential premium increase if you claim. But you can also take into account the £80odd it costs a year to cover it seperately0
