Benefits JSA Self Employed Wife Working part Time 17.5 hours One Week Next Week 4 day

Hi
I have to sign on tomorrow JSA for self employed i have been told i have to include my wife on the forms as she is working 17.5 hours a week 2.5 hours a day. So on forms i claim for my wife.

My wife works 7 days one week then 4 days next week so wages be different.

I only want to claim for myself and do i have to put a joint claim in for both of us.

I think the Jobcenter are trying to trick me.

Thanks

Neil

  • Why would they want to trick you? If you want to claim for yourself only you could only claim JSA Conts which is based on your NI Contributions. If you want to claim JSA Conts and income based your wifes details would be taken into account as it's based on your household income

Have you been self employed? Then you will have not paid enough national insurance contributions to be eligible for contributions based JSA, you will only be eligible for income based JSA. Therefore you have to declare your wifes earnings and they will assess if you are entitled to any help.

Even if you are not eligible for a payment then they will still pay your national insurance contributions so it is important that you sign on.

    Do you have children?

Hi yes i have one child but this person from the Government was so rude i have paid heavy taxes over the year, so its ok for someone not to be self employed and there wife or husband to claim jsa.

From what i can see it will be better for my wife not to be working go the the DHSS and claim home from the Government which will cost the decent tax payers more money, do i hate this country.

    Thanks

Do you get WTC? Do you rent your property? What does your wife earn? Are you sure you would be better off with your wife leaving work?

    Hi
What is WTC no we moved back into my mums home last year when the Country fell apart, we were ready to rent a new home then buy after one or two years from fair views homes, Lucky we never signed the full contract. my wife earns £6.00 per hour 17.5 hours one week and then 4 days off then back to 17.5 hours again. WTC is working tax credit we had this stopped this year buy the Jobcenter as being an electrician has been difficult this year.

    Thanks

Depends on what your self employed income is. The amount you get is:

Joint entitlement less any income, disregarding the first £10.

So if the joint JSA is £95 a week, you earn nothing and your wife earns £60 in a week, as they disregard the first £10 income you'd get £45 for that week.

Remember that if you work 16hrs a week or more, you must end your claim and reclaim when you don't.
