Lost a weekly train ticket. Do I have any protection?

Hi,

I bought a weekly train ticket (£42.20) for my girlfriend yesterday on my Abbey Zero credit card and during the return journey of her first day of travel. It has gone missing.

She spoke to a ticket collector and he said that they can cancel that ticket and refund the remaining price. She then spoke to someone at a station ticket office. They said they could do nothing of the sort and that she would have to by a new ticket. :-(

Can I approach my credit card company for a partial refund? I realise that the item cost less than £100 but do I have any kind of protection for items that cost less than £100?

Thanks.

    You have no statutory protection.
Some companies do cover loss of purchases although as always there may be terms and conditions that apply.
If you can say the card company then someone might know.
Otherwise go and look at their website and check out whether this benefit exists and whether it fits the terms and conditions.
I believe Egg money has some insurances attached as a benefit.

I did get a partial refund before for an unused ticket when a close relative went into hospital and I needed to drive for visiting.
But it's probably a different train company and different circumstances i.e. I gave the ticket back.

    See http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/season_tickets/season_ticket_conditions.html.

You can't get a refund or duplicate ticket if you lose a 7 day pass, but you can for longer passes. However, you can get partial refund if you hand in a 7 day pass with at least three days validity remaining.

I have been in a similar position. I managed to get a refund for the purchase value, minus £10 which was considered an admin fee.

It is an Abbey Zero card. I've not been able to find complete T&C's online. I'll have to find my printed copy. I wish I had used my EggCard now! D'oh!

How odd, I guess this is just the way they administer the 7 day cards . It is a bit annoying to say the least.

I didn't realise you could get partial refunds on Season Passes that last longer than one month. It might be better to buy tickets this way in future.

I guess, it just depends on who you speak to, I'll ask her to speak to someone else, as she still has the receipt.

That would seem fair since it has her photo on it (I think?) and I would have thought no one else can use it after it has been cancelled.

Oh well, that's life I guess, yet another lesson learned.

Thank you all for your advice.
