Pre-Xmas delivered suite - but wrong one delivered!

Options
The company made a mistake somewhere between us ordering our suite and it arrriving - ordered a 'bruno', they delivered a 'brando'!

Anyway, we were told we could keep the suite until they had a new one ready (which now definitely wont be before xmas), but I rejected this because we already had our old sofas still, and also was unsure at the time what would happen if the suite got accidentally damaged for whatever reason, and they tried to charge us for it when they swapped over the wrong suite for the right one.

Can I get anything out of them for messing up the order, or was their 'goodwill' of letting us hold onto the wrong suite their way of ensuring that we have no way of negotiating anything for their mistake? I'm not trying to screw over a company just because they made a mistake, but I do wonder if I can negotiate a lower price for the inconvenience (seeing as I could only get £100 off the suite by haggling :( )

Cheers
Al

  • Speak to them - you never know, but make sure you know what you are asking for and what to do if they say no.

From the companies perspective, if they compensate you it is likely that that would take any margin out of the sale - ie they would make more money by picking up the incorrect sofa and simply refunding you than to replace it and give you money off.

Could you live with the Brando? Make them a silly offer just to keep it?

You have a sofa either way, you just have to wait a bit longer for the one you ordered. Delivery refund at the most, but you're being silly to think you can get any money off the sofa just because they accidentally delivered the wrong one (and agreed to let you keep it until you got a replacement).
