finally have win 7 problem

Turned machine on yesterday before work used it 20mins no problem turned it off and went to work.
Came home turned it on it froze at the point the logo is supposed to appear.
Rebooted, It went into recovery mode I selected restore to previous. It did its stuff(;)), rebooted and came up with a black screen (). Ok np thinks I, inserts cd boots from CD and it 'loads windows' then tells me my previous version is corrupt and I nedd to insert the setup disck and restart my computer (!!!!!!?). anyway to cut a long story short where i deleted partions on two of my drives and got same error message with my 64bit cd I have ended up with the 32bit version on because it would load ok (). I tried putting the 64bit version on after but it reverted to the same insert setup cd and reboot computer message. Well I'm not exactly a novice but I dont get it.

The actual message was along the lines of

A piece of hardware or software is no longer available and windows failed to start insert your setup CD and restart your computer.

Anyone got any ideas as I would think deleting the partition should remove any old files so how does the 64bit version know this? and why does the 32bit work ok?

It looks like Windows activation is complaining because the hardware has changed! I think that when you install & activate Win 7 it "logs" the hardware connected to the machine.

By removing 2 partitions you have effectively "removed" 2 drives & it's not happy :) Which would explain the error message.

Of course I could be totally wrong ;)

Not that, I was already getting the message before I removed the partitions

Well I only removed the partitions I didnt format as well so maybe this is the problem, I always thought you didnt need to manually format if you removed the partition,I shall try later and report back. I have all my 'need' stuff on one drive out of the three I have so I just unplug that one till the os is up again.

  • Deleted partitions, formatted and still cant get the 64bit back on its the same error, so I'm using 32bit now.

  • "windows failed to start. a recent hardware or software change might be the cause. to fix the problem:
    1. insert your windows instalation disc and restart your computer
    2. choose your language settings, and then click "next"
    3. click "repair your computer"

if you dont have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

    file: \windows\system32\winload.exe

    status: 0x0000225

info: the selected entry could not de loaded because the application is missing or corrupt."
