Cut your own hair!! (Probably for those with long hair!)

Right, here's a tip to save you money at the hairdressers.. and I have DONE
IT TONIGHT...

Dry hair...Tip your head upside down, Scrape it into a bobble at the scalp. Cut straight across the end of hair. Go easy, you can always cut more off remember. Then get your scissors and snip into the hair lightly, then throw your head back. You will have lovely layed hair at the ends without much length cut off!

Trust me it works..

I did this on my daughter and she was really pleased as she didn't want to loose any length. Gave her hair a few layers. Think it works best on very long hair.
  • I have cut my own hair fo years- I always kept it very long and would just trim it every couple of months. I cut it to a bob a few months ago - I actually intended just taking the length off en getting it done 'properly' but its presentable so I didn't bother!

I dont think I would dare to do this! I recently cut myself a fringe in and it was not terribly successful!

I just hate going to the hairdressers.

  • I tried once (or twice) to cut my own hair. It was fine for cutting the ends off - but did look a bit "flat".

Didnt know about the tipping your head over tip - good idea! Will have to try that. Last time I was at the hari dressers they took 4 hours!!! I was soo bored! The cut was nothing special, I do like a few layers, so will defo try this.

I do this to my own (very long) hair and have done for years now. I do mine wet though and twist it. By twisting it you can see where the dead ends stop!

Why pay a hairdresser for a trim when I can do it myself for nowt!

It's funny though cos when I do it, my daughter and OH look in horror at the amount I'm gonna cut off, then when I do it and throw my head back and they see it isn't that much at all, they sigh with relief haha!

  • Thats is Shell, trying to convince people that hardly any length comes off.. I think its a brilliant way to save money from the hairdressers, arent they extortionate...

Have a go KandiPandi, I cut off about an inch and half off and you wouldnt notice.. All its really doing is cutting the dead ends off, and giving you a few layers...

If you have a middle parting then leave the bobble dead centre, if you have a side parting, then slightly move the bobble to the opposite side.

When I get someone here I'll put pics up to demonstrate.

I think I need to see this done as the vision in my head is not a good one! Im itching to try this but cant visualise it!
Iv got a side parting but scared that I will make it lopsided (to match my dodgy fringe!!!:o).

I have been doing this for years, ever since I saw Andrew Collinge do this on tv.
My sisters were horrified when I did this on holiday a couple of years ago and
one actually tried to grab the scissors to stop me.:rotfl:
They did admit it looked fab afterwards, because it sorts out layers and my hair goes from shaggy to curly
