Acer Warranty Concerns

Can't believe how woeful Acer's support is at Plymouth when attempting a warranty return of a 6 month old netbook with a faulty screen. They are arrogant, rude and have no respect for the client. We shall battle on.

Take a look at my thread dated 28.11.09 on Acer Aspire One User Forum, user town.clerk, with the subject "Acer Warranty Concerns" (sorry no direct link allowed).

Anyone else had similar experiences with Acer who allege that lcd screens have been damaged?

Regards
Alan

I used to have an acer laptop with a faulty screen and they replaced it twice under the warranty with no questions asked.

  • Hi

I sent in my Asus netbook which was within the warranty period. The A/C mode was not working and couldn't charge the battery. It turned out to be a problem with the power supply - and I had to pay for a replacement! Is this standard? Shouldn't the power supply be covered by the warranty?

Did it spontaneously break, or did the cable wear out from mis-use?

While often laptop manufacturers charge for repairs, it's because the most common faults are caused by mis-use rather than fault.

  • The details are my wife bought a Acer Netbook D150 from Costco in May. Great it came with 2 years warranty. Not so in reality as last week the screen went on the blink, lots of coloured vertical lines on a blank grey screen. Costco told me to send it to Acer Support at Plymouth. After 2 days, Acer's customer support phoned me and arrogantly said the screen was damaged and the warranty would not cover it. I said how come a screen can get damaged as my wife really looks after it, keeps it in a protective case and it was sent with mountains of bubble wrap. I think Acer are trying it on, and they also want £50 to return it as we are decliing the repair. Thier rudeness knows no bounds. I suggest anyone returning goods with faulty screens takes a photo before sending, as there seems to be a pattern of Acer alleging cracked screens.

They're well within their rights to argue that the fault is down to misuse or accidental damage. As you don't agree then you'll need to get your own independant report done to challange this.
  • Continued ... Acer did find it at long last, and having been pressurised by Costco over several days, Acer have decided to return it (without repairs), but at least it will be sent back free of charge. That was last week but I am still waiting. I think it has been escalated in their offices as their supervisors are involved at last. No apologies though, they just don't understand the niceties of customer service. Words cannot describe just how poor their service is.

Check out this forum and see if the fault could be as a result of this defect. Also contains advice on how to deal with retaiiler/supplier etc.

Acer D150 has no nVidia parts so that wont help.

I've sent many things to be repaired at Acer, and only one came back with a cracked screen it did not go off with
