Sun cream-spot the difference?

Just been to Mr Tesco. Normally I buy boots soltan range but thought I would have a look in Tesco today..much cheaper.
They have a 'value' range, then the 'middle of the range', then Tesco 'finest'! They all have a UVA rating of 4 stars on the back-which is apparently what you are supposed to check? Boots own range has a 5 star rating, but Garnier for example only has 3??
Do you think there is any difference or is this just down to the packaging/smell??
I am intrigued..
..and would love to know what you use and what you think..

I don't know about that particular example, but I'd expect (and hope) that when I buy a Factor 30, for example, it does exactly what it says regardless of price or packaging or make.
I can't remember the make, but I bought some factor 30 foam from one of the drug stores (can't remember which) but it wasn't expensive and definately worked a treat, never got burnt one.0 -
I dont think there is any difference at all, you just pay more for nice looking packaging and brand name

I would go for the sunscreen that says SPF 30+. Try and get water resistant & sand resistant for 2 hours or more. I have the gel type which is non greasy as well. Much easier to slap on.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.

The level of protection is the only thing I'm really bothered about. The texture cream/spray thing is down to choice as is scented /unscented with and without moisturiser - I prefer the spray personally for ease of use. The rest like everythng else is to stitch up the consumer ie those who always choose the bargain, those who always think that cost equals quality and those who don't want to spend tons but don't want the cheapest. That way everybody buys. Some of them have probably got exactly the same ingrediants at the same ratio whereas some will have the same ingrediants at different ratio - but if it stops you getting burnt that's the deciding factor.0

We have been using the F15 value from Mr T's, and havn't been burned once - its easy to apply, not sticky of greasy, and it smells just like Hawiaan (?sp) Tropic.0

I used to buy the expensive ones thinking they were better until someone pointed out to me that they wouldnt be allowed to sell them if they didnt give the protection they are supposed to, so its cheap and cheerful tescos own for me now
I understand ALOT more than I care to let on

I've always gone for supermarket own brand sunscreen, never had a problem until this year, bought Tesco normal not value range for kids, very, very runny and both kids got burnt, not at all happy and went back to Tesco to complain and got money back,I will stick to Asda brand much thicker and stays on the skin better, but that's just my personal opinion.Debt at highest £102k

I've been looking at this too, and the advice that I have read on various websites such as Cancer UK is that the best type to go for has both UVA and UVB protection, is photstable, and at least SFP 15. They also say that the more stars the better and, interestingly, that a SFP10 with 4 stars may offer more protection than a SFP15 with 3 Stars!!! So if there is a cheap one that offers more stars, then it should do the trick.
