Amazon took £10 by mistake and wont give it back

Options
I made a purchase from Amazon for £10 from my gift certificate balance. I checked my balance before and after the transaction. The next day a further £10 had been debited from my balance. I figured it was just a technical glitch. I've spent 2 weeks arguing with Amazon, getting inaccurate, irrelevant or ineffectual replies from customer services. Basically they deny any further debit was made so there's no funds to return and that's that.

I am positive this money went out, and it wasn't due to vouchers expiring. My experience of Amazon customer services is that they can be worse than useless, but if they refute that any money has been taken I don't know what else I can do. Is there any further action I can take as I'm pretty furious at Amazon over this?

    get your bank involved?

    what was the card used?
    Back by no demand whatsoever.
  • The purchase was made using gift certificates that I'd paid into my Amazon gift certificate balance. The additional debit Amazon took came off the gift certificate balance, so unfortunately I can't turn to my bank. It's just down to Amazon what they want to do about it.

Tell them that you will take them to the small claims court.

Lodge the complaint and if you don't get anywhere, then escalate it. Have you provided proof that the second lot of money was taken out?

I can't provide proof of it. I checked when I made the order that £10 had been deducted from the balance. I made a note of how much I had left. The next day another £10 had gone without me having placed an order. But I've no physical proof. Which is a problem, as if Amazon say it didn't happen I haven't got anything to show that it did.

It took 3 attempts to get Amazon customer services to give me details of where to send a complaint. Unfortunately it's just a postal address for Amazon customer services, which given the way they've dealt with it so far seems a waste of a stamp.

Surely if it's a gift certificate account then they can provide a statement for it? With what was taken out and when.

I'd be insisting that they provide this.
